WEEZY'S IN THE BIG LEAGUE'S NOW" Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few months, by now you know about, have heard, know all the lyrics, and are probably damn near tired of Wayne's most recent hits, "Lollipop" featuring Static and "A Milli". Both prove the inevitable and are nothing short of what we already know Wayne is capable of-delivering a hit record! But it's gonna take more than a hit single to win over the critics, skeptics, and those who just don't believe his hype. As one would expect, Tha Carter III is a fusion of Wayne's brilliant delivery, sick punch lines, and unadulterated dry humor, cemented with killer collabo's. On tracks like "Shoot Me Down" featuring D. Smith and "Tie My Hands" featuring Robin Thicke, Wayne gives way to his hazy promethazine fused state of mind to tell tales of jealousy and struggle over melodic beats that are a sure way to take you to a new high. "Misunderstood" takes a semi-political stance, as Wayne solemnly asks the world to accept him for who he is. All the while lyrically annihilating The Rev. Al Sharpton and in his words, "everyone like him". "You Ain't Got Nothing On Me" featuring Juelz Santana, "L.A." featuring Brisco and Busta Rhymes, and "Got Money" featuring T-Pain hands down solidify his knack for collaborations and give CIII the push it needs to reach "commercial success". Weezy even reserves a special song for the ladies to enjoy. Recruiting 80's R&B crooner Babyface to accompany him on "Comfortable", a subtle yet obvious play on Beyonce's "Irreplaceable". Unfortunately, Weezy sidetracks slightly with "3 Peat" and "Whip It". These tracks have minimal potential and will barely reach the brink of one's memory.Bottom line, they simply don't cut it. But with the good, you've must take the bad. And where he drops the ball, he picks it right back up and delivers the ultimate slam-dunk with none other than "Mr. Carter" featuring Jay-Z. "Mr. Carter" is a product of sheer genius and leaves nothing to chance. Jay and Weezy go in, both releasing an amazing energy combined with memorizing flows and a catchy cat and mouse hook that plays wonderfully off the last name they both share. Once again, Hov comes back out of "retirement" to share the mic with Wayne on a track that is arguably the best on the album. In the past, Lil' Wayne's has failed to reach mainstream success and get the respect he deserves. Nowadays, as the self-proclaimed "best rapper alive", there's no doubt he's got something to prove! No worries yet though, because Mr. "Make It Rain On Dem Hoes" is well on his way to doing just that! Tha Carter III, Wayne's pride and joy, has hit the streets with a vengeance, selling 423,000 copies on the first day of release and is projected to reach the 900,000 mark for first week of sales. Thus placing him within the ranks of top-sellers such as Kanye West and Jay-Z. Yet and still, after the years of pushed back release dates, internet leaks, and a dozens of mix-tapes later, some still wonder, does Wayne have what it takes to play in the big leagues? I'd say so...the numbers don't lie! And with an album of this magnitude, there's no doubt about it! According to his bio, Tyga received critical acclaim after appearing with Lil Wayne onstage at the 2007 MTV Music Awards (I missed that moment in history) and is the supposed cousin of Gym Class Hero's front man, Travis McCoy.He's signed to Decaydance Records (owned Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy), where he shares billing with Gym Class Heros, Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco. All this to say, I don't know where the hell Tyga fits into the grand scheme of things! A few notes: * Coconut Juice didn't get me hype * AIM didn't make me go "ahhh, this boy can flow" * Space Joyriding didn't make me want to take a spaceship to Mars I'm one of those music fans who likes to understand what an artist is selling me.Is Tyga supposed to appeal to the Teens?Adults? The club crowd? The conscience movement?IDK.I can only hope that he's selling something to your ears.
